This Carers Week, carers are sharing their experiences of working for Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust while also having caring responsibilities for a loved one, touching on the challenges they face at both work and home that impacts their health and wellbeing.

Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlighting the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.

This year, we want to put Carers on the map and highlight the support out there in our local communities - you can find this information on our carers webpage.

Paula shares her experience of being a carer and working for the trust in this touching video.

Juggling work and caring can be very stressful and exhausting, and as a working carer you have rights.

The law changed in April 2024 to improve support to working carers. The Carers UK website has lots of useful information on the below.

  • Your rights in work
  • Requesting flexible working
  • Taking time off when needed
  • Support in work
  • Thinking of leaving work?
  • Thinking of returning to work?
  • The right to parental leave
  • Boosting your skills

You may also have additional contractual rights, your employer may be able to offer flexibility and support through their own policies and procedures.
