The horticultural work of a team of patients and colleagues from our Guild Lodge Grow Your Own (GYO) project has been praised at a North West Britain in Bloom event.
The green-fingered handy work co-produced by the team had been assessed by official North West in Bloom judges who came down to visit our GYO site at Guild Lodge, and the event took place at Bolton Wanderers football stadium earlier this week.
Three colleagues from our Estates and Facilities Team attended, including Bank Administrator and GYO enthusiast Kerry Wilding. Kerry said:
“It was a fantastic event and great to be recognised by North West in Bloom which is connected to the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS).
It’s the first time we’ve ever entered the competition and it was great to network and get ideas. We were awarded a certificate for Grow Your Own which was classified at level four, as a thriving project, just one point off the final classification of outstanding. It was a very enjoyable event and hopefully we can go for level five next year.”
Our GYO community project, based in the grounds of Guild Lodge allows those receiving care, colleagues and community volunteers to grow flowers, fruit and vegetables and get involved in local community events and garden shows, providing a sense of achievement and self-worth and helping with rehabilitation.
