As a Trust, we have over 1760 administrators playing a vital role in patient care.

On Administrative Professionals Day 2025, we want to shine a spotlight on our incredible admin colleagues - they do whatever it takes behind the scenes.

Today is about celebrating all the valuable work they do in providing vital support to all our teams and services from handling calls, to managing schedules, and booking appointments. The Trust’s administrative workers are the backbone of the organisation by ensuring everything runs smoothly and to schedule.

Meet some of our admin colleagues below.

Gill has dedicated an incredible 34 years’ service working in NHS admin services.

Based in East Lancashire, Gill has worked in her current role as an administration lead for four years.

Gill explains:

“I began my career in the NHS straight after leaving university way back in 1991 working at the old Queen’s Park Hospital in Blackburn. I was an information assistant working with data and reporting, this role taught me I really have no interest in data! I am very much a people person, so I moved to Chorley and South District Hospital in January 1996 to work as an admin manager.

I have been with the Trust since it was established and have always held an admin management role but have often taken on additional duties such as Mental Health Act coordinator, rota coordinator for junior doctors and learning and development lead.”

Gill is a strong believer in constant learning with this being so beneficial not only for your job but for your wellbeing. Working in the NHS for 34 years means that Gill’s seen a lot of change in that time, but one thing that keeps Gill motivated is the people she works with.

Gill continues:

“By far the best thing about my role is the people I work with, from the deputy admin leads and locality coordinators to the admin in Pennine community and inpatient services.

All the admin colleagues are so hardworking and committed to providing the best service for our patients, going above and beyond is second nature to them and I am immensely proud to be their admin lead.”

Meet Lucy who began her career working as an administrator in our Treating Tobacco Dependency Service.

Lucy said:

“Being an administrator for a brand-new service has been fantastic as it’s given me the opportunity to get involved with all aspects of the mobilisation of the service. My job covers all sorts, from supporting with policy updates, creating an E-Learning course, creating resources for engagement events, generating infographics for clinical data, managing our vape stock and processes to support patients, and supporting meetings. I can safely say that admin support for a newly developing service is essential!

My admin role has allowed me to work closely with colleagues all over the Trust in teams such as Communications, Performance, Estates and Facilities, Procurement, IT, Policies, Patient Safety, Patient Engagement and many more. As someone who was new to the NHS and the Trust, working with such a wide variety of people has rapidly increased my knowledge of internal processes and the inner workings of the Trust."

Lucy continues:

"Our Treating Tobacco Dependency Service provides vital treatment to people who are diagnosed with tobacco dependency. I’ve been given the opportunity to learn more about tobacco dependency including attending training from Mary Yates a clinical expert and national tobacco dependence trainer. This, along with being involved in the Service User Group, has allowed me to create materials, like a patient resource pack, that patients will find accessible and engaging.

I am thoroughly enjoying my role as the Treating Tobacco Dependency Administrator, and I am looking forward to seeing where my career takes me in the future.”
